Abstract

Service-learning, a method in which students use academic skills to identify and work towards eliminating community problems, is becoming increasingly popular. This practice has roots in the constructivist, experiential education, and authentic learning traditions. The Internet, which allows students to communicate with each other and with subject matter experts, seek resources, perform research, and publish work, has an enormous potential for enriching service-learning projects. This report presents a case for Internet-infused service-learning. The accompanying Learn, Serve, and Surf website, which contains annotated links, case scenarios, research findings, and an on-line discussion board, is a resource for educators who wish to use the Internet to enrich their service-learning projects.
