Abstract

The purpose of this report is to summarize those pertinent aspects of the literature on how young children learn and make further inquiries into how the computer may be useful in the education process of very young children. This report describes a computer program developed for 2- to 3-year-old children, The First Stone; and presents the result of a pilot test of program. The sample consisted of four children ? two boys, 28 month and 26 months old, and two girls, 19 months and 3` months old. It was demonstrated that children 2 to 3 years of age can engage in computer interactions. However, it appears from this test that purposeful interactions may not begin to occur until the child is about two-and-a-half-years-old.
