Abstract

This report describes the development of a Web-based training environment called the Online Training System (OTS). The OTS was developed for the Digital Media Services program at the University of Texas at Austin, and was designed to replace traditional face-to-face multimedia production workshops. The design of the OTS is based upon the principles of constructivism, social constructivism, and cognitive load theory, as well as the current literature on Web-based learning. Existing alternative multimedia training websites are examined and compared to the OTS, and the interface and operation of the system itself are discussed in detail.
