Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate college student use and attitudes of the Internet. The subject population selected for this study consisted of undergraduate and graduate student (n=267) enrolled in the Fall 1999 semester at the University of Texas at Austin. The study found that communication and searching for information are the predominant reasons students use the Internet. Students use a variety of applications to access the Internet, with the majority connecting from home in short sessions of less than 30 minutes. University students perceive the Internet to be one of the best means for communication and a decided advantage in obtaining information, although the overwhelming amount of information available is a concern for many students.
