Abstract

This report presents a review of the recent research regarding the effects of educational computer-based environments on young children who use them, as well as research from which guidelines for the instructional and interface design of such environments can be drawn. Current research indicates that, when appropriately designed for the ability and developmental levels of children, these environments may provide a variety of potential benefits for children who use them in the classroom and positively affect children?s engagement and learning. It should be clear that the guidelines offered are suggestions only, as more research is needed to fill the gaps in the knowledge we already have on the subject.
