Abstract

Instructional systems design models delineate the processes of instructional development, including procedures for analysis, strategy development and evaluation. Sequential design activities guide the selection of learning goals, the creation of instructional events and materials, and the measures of instructional effectiveness. Within these process models, the target learner characteristics analysis provides valuable clues on how to close the gap between learning goals and learner capabilities. This paper provides an exemplar of a targeted learner characteristics analysis conducted for the EnterTech Project. Applying both principles of learning and an understanding of the targeted learners, specifications for an integrated learning environment were created to accommodate identified learner characteristics.
