Abstract

The purpose of this report is to inform readers about constructivist theories and their implications for the design of the technology-rich learning environments. The first section offers an overview of constructivism and highlights its tow major strands ? cognitive constructivism and social constructivism. The second section deals with the comparison and contrast between cognitive constructivism and social constructivism as well as their implications for pedagogy. The third section presents seven principles for the design of constructivist learning environments. The fourth section gives three real-world examples of constructivist learning environment along with an analysis of these examples. The fifth section shows how the technology can be integrated into the constructivist learning environment and facilitate learning. Finally recommendations to the teachers, instructional designers, and researchers are provided.
